NOVEMBER 1 Encouraging Word # 306 “Many are the troubles of the righteous…” “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 34:19; Psalm 23:4 Dear Friends, I have a friend who lives on the East Coast, and he asked me, “Don’t you ever have any down days? Are they all up?” Of course I do and we all have down days. David says in Psalm 34:19 “Many are the troubles of the righteous…” Sometimes our “down days” are longer than a day. I try to discipline myself to use these down and discouraging times to deepen my walk with God and deepen my faith in Him. It is not always easy. However, David said in Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” We wish God would remove the “valley of the shadow of death”, but He didn’t say that He would. He just said that He would walk with us through it. Notice though, David called it a “SHADOW.” It is not the real thing. Christ has removed the real death. There is nothing left. It is only an illusion even if it feels real. If you are in a down time in life right now, the best thing you can do is press close to God. Whatever you are in it is not permanent. God wants to use this time to have you grow deeper in your relationship with Him. It is these down times that build our faith and trust in God. Don’t let the “shadow” fool you for the real thing.
