“Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see!”
Elisha’s nine-word prayer has become one of my favorites.
I used it today to pray for a beloved young family member, who is suddenly facing treatment for malignant melanoma. I ask God to give “Elisha’s eyes” to persecuted believers, who live with threats from hostile authorities. I pray this prayer for elderly friends, whose world is threatening to cave in around them due to reduced mobility and diminished strength.
I pray it for myself, too. I want to have eyes wide open to see spiritual reality — no matter how loud the threats in the “real” world portrayed on the evening news.
